John Guzowski, Ph.D.

Founder, Thrive Science & Wellbeing

I’m a neuroscientist, writer, and educator exploring how the brain shapes—and is shaped by—everyday life. My career began in the lab, studying how the brain encodes experience as memories and how learning changes neural circuits. That work of 30 years gave me a deep respect for evidence, mechanisms, and intellectual honesty.

A personal experience with depression shifted my focus. I immersed myself in the science of wellbeing, habits, and emotion—not just as research, but as practice—and discovered that the same principles guiding learning and memory could help navigate stress, relationships, and daily life.

Thrive Science & Wellbeing is the continuation of that journey. I study how attention, emotion, habits, physical health, and social connection interact—not as isolated elements, but as a complex, interwoven system that shapes how we experience life. I’m especially drawn to experiences that transport us—music, photography, connection to nature, deep engagement—that may not feel “scientific” but reflect real changes in the brain, and are increasingly supported by research.

Through writing, public education, workshops, and talks, I translate complex neuroscience research and integrate it with psychological and contemplative concepts to create practical insight and actionable behaviors.

I don’t sell miracles. I offer maps. They don’t eliminate difficulty, but they make it easier to navigate life—and to experience it fully.
